HomeworkChallenge- Caring for Kittens

On 18th of April 2013 my cat Maszie gave birth to 3 kittens the first was born a 3:41am, the second was born at 5:45am while the 3rd was born at 11:41am. I decided that this would be perfect for homework challenge.

After 1 week my family finally decided on name.

Mogoly was a great name for a the eldest kitten, he was a male black with tints of orange, he started eating on Thursday or Friday. A interesting fact about Mogoly is his name originated from the movie jungle book.

Merce is the middle kitten she is  female classic tabby color with a black line going down her back. A interesting fact about Merce is Merce is actually short for my favourite type of car Mercedes- Benz.

Muthasa is  The youngest out of the 3 and is also male a classic tabby coat, he was the most advanced out of the three kittens as he started feeding when he was just two weeks of age. A interesting fact about Muthasa we had to watch how much we feed him as he started getting a little to fat.

Looking after the 3 kitten's was actually really fun. I knew the kittens from second one as they were a home birth and Mogoly and Merce were born in my room and Muthasa was born out in the lounge. It was a really awesome experience helping raise 3 kittens and I wouldn't  hesitate to do it again. The best part was coming home from school and having 3 little kittens rush to your feet meowing for hugs. One of the not so fun things was probably hunting down their tiny droppings and little puddles, their buisnes was generally hidden behind the television or under the table ever way it was never in plain sight nor was it easy to find. After a little while I got used to their special places and managed to put them in the litter tray before they went toilet. Overal having kittens to cater for was really fun and I would happily do it again even with the extra buisness.

Excellence In The Arts
E2: Create an original piece of artwork using recycled materials.

At currently in my garage I have lots things that were once loved by many but as they have aged they have not been used so much. So I decided to go through some of the rubble. I luckily managed to find some odd nick and nacks varying from old hockey sticks to a old lamp. I thought these things would be perfect to use for my homework task. I dived right into it I bit by bit and constructed the overly odd masterpiece.

The project really worked up a sweat and was very very tiring. I managed to grab some glue to help me out with sticking the project together and also found some rope which insured every thing was tight. I choose to do a project like this as I wanted something unique that was abstract and I guess I wasn't really inspired by any thing other than my imagination.

Half way though of the strange master piece was looking very very odd and looked like it had been through World War I. The contraption began to look stranger and stranger. I stumbled into a few mistakes like forgetting to put enough glue on and dropping things on my toe's but in the end it was all worth it, it was phenomenal, outstanding mind boggling. It was strange yet fantastic!

The lamp ended up as the base and the hockey stick stuck out the top with the tire on the side, I had many strange things on the project but the outcome was amazing!

Bad Product- Morning Blogpost

When I was six years of age, I purchased a brand new Ferrari F1 remote control model. I bought this toy at the warehouse, I knew I wanted a remote control car but there was so many to choose from. As I didn't want a cheap tacky remote controle car I decided to look in the over $40 dollar R.C cars. I strolled through the long isle until I stumbled across a Ferrari F-1. I found the awesome toy and ran straight to the counter with the Ferrari, I quickly flashed out my wallet waiting to hear the overall cost, "$50" the person at the counter said, I pulled out a fresh crispy $50 note and gave it to the person behind the counter and said "thank you" and I then frantically ran to the car. My dad followed closely behind and we jumped into the car. The ride seemed like forever we finally got home and I un-boxed the R.C car. I ran to the top of the road and began driving the toy. To my surprise the R.C car kept vering off to the side! I was so upset and yelled for my dad to come and take a look at what was wrong, we played around with the toy for a good 15 minutes but it still didn't work. I was really upset so my dad took me back to the Warehouse to get a refund. We went to the refund desk and got it refunded back for my money. I was really upset because my dad wouldn't let me get a new one as he said there might sill be something wrong with it.

Cross Country- Morning Blogpost

Tauranga Intermediate School Cross Country

On the 24th of June 2013, Tauranga Intermediate School had a cross country. Every member of Tauranga Intermediate had to participate un-less he or she had a medical certificate explaining why they could not participate. The races went in order year 7 girls first then followed by year 7 boys then went the year 8 girls soon after also followed by the year 8 boys. The race I participated in was the year 8 boys, their were roughly 295 kids whom participated in the race. The race started by a loud yell from the deputy principal Mr Scholes, straight after that the big crowd began to move slowly at first in fact so slow I was just about walking. Gradually the crowd picked up speed it was turning into a very slow jog. After about five minutes I was out of the over sized crowd and running past small groups of people. As I sprinted down the hill I remembered to savor my energy for the hills.

3 Course Meal- Homework

On Friday, I cooked a three course meal for my family, The theme was Japanese. The meals were very simple and I had practiced a couple of times before. The entree was pretty straight forward, Miso soup and traditional chinese green tea, whilst the main was a little more complex being a variety of different flavoured sushi. For the desert I made a sundae/ chocolate pudding.

For the table set up I neatly placed four large bowls onto a plate which sat on top of a flax woven place mat. I then carefully lit 5 tea light candles and placed them towards the end of the table, later I lit a large red candle and sat it neatly onto a flat metal fish. I then lay 3 more mats on the table for the food that would come later. Neatly I placed four crystal wine glasses on the table and attached a little ring with a fish or another little icon on each glass. Since I am not permitted to serve alcohol, I had to bare with juice. I would wait for every one to sit down then ask them if they wanted any juice. This was followed by four more ordinary glasses that I placed on the table next to the wine glasses, these glasses were for the green tea.

The entree was exceedingly fun to make I boiled up some water and poured it into a large bowl I then added 3 table spoons of traditional chinese green tea leaves (Japan also commonly uses these.). The change was instant the water began to go a soft tea green colour. I popped the jug on the table where the items I had put there earlier lay. I then got the miso soup powder and cautiously poured it onto a bowl. Shortly after

For the main I successfully made twelve rolls of sushi, four of which were salmon and avocado, another four were teriyaki chicken and avocado and the remaining were mixes of cucumber, carrot, teriyaki chicken, salmon, avocado, capsican and a few others. Believe it or not but in one roll I had every thing but salmon!

First I had to get 4 cups of rice and pour them into the rice cooker, this was closely followed by 4 cups of water and three tablespoons of sushi vingar. The sushi vinegar is to make the rice sticky, so that when you roll it up in the seaweed it won't all fall apart.  It also makes a more authentic tasting rice to use in sushi. I also had to use a special sushi rice. Sushi rice is a lot shorter than normal rice it is roughly about half the size. In other countries it is actually called short grain rice. Sadly short grain rice is hard to get in New Zealand so you have to get sushi rice or settle for medium grain rice.  (Sushi rice seems to be really overpriced compared to medium rice - and I don't think many people would be able to tell the difference!)

I then prepared the avocado and carrots. For the carrots I had to boil up a pot of boiling water with a steamer on top. While that was boiling I chopped up 4 or 6 carrots. As soon as the water had boiled I quickly placed the carrots on the steamer. I do this because I like the carrot just a little bit softer than raw carrot. I cut open the two avocados. By the time I had sliced the avocado, the carrots had softened enough. I carefully grabbed the steamer which contained the carrots and poured them onto the breadboard where I had early cut the avocado. The cucumber and capsicum was sliced nice and thin and put to one side.

I then grabbed the chicken out of the fridge that had been soaking in a teriyaki marinade, I put the teriyaki chicken in the pan and began to cook it.  It was quickly cooked and so I took it out. The salmon still lay un-touched on the corner of the bench.  I tore of the news paper that was wrapped around it and began removing the skin. There was roughly 12 small bones that I had to pull out. Next I grabbed a santoku knife and cut the raw salmon into long thin slices. Five minutes later the rices maker beeped alerting me the rice was done. I put the rice into a bowl and added more vinegar until I was happy with the taste and then began putting it into the sushi maker. I made sure there was a clear line in the middle for the pieces of the food that I had prepared early to go in. Next I neatly placed a strip f salmon in one of the gaps this was followed closely by the avocado strips. In the blink of in eye I shut the sushi maker to form the circle shape. I sealed the cap on neatly and used a special pole type object to push it tight. To go along with this I arranged one sheet of seaweed onto the bench.

Need For Speed Carbon.

Need For Speed Carbon is a older game but is still very very good, you get to drive exotic cars and customize them to the max! You start off selecting which car you want there are three choices a Muscle Chevrolet, a tuner Mazda or a exotic Alfa Romeo. Each race you win you get $5,000-$7,500. After you win 20-25 you level up, this entitles you to more race cars. Also each race you win you unlock something this could be a new exhaust pipe to a brand new car! The game Need For Speed Carbon also allows you to get team members. Team members help you out on races they can win the races to, although if your team member does win you get $100 less than you would if you won yourself. Need For Speed Carbon also has at least 100+ of races for you to enter so you will never get bored. As in most games when you start to get to higher levels things get harder the races are better and they have better cars too. There is also a separate menu where you can do challenges, the challenges are really fun they vary from excepting cops to to player races. The graphics may have aged but its still one of my favorites.

A interesting fact about Maszie, I am the only one in my family who can pick her up and put her around my neck and use her as a scarf. Another interesting fact about Maszie is her name is actually short for Maserati.

In the weekend I catered for my cat and three kittens. It was quite a job as I frequently had to clean up their accidents, when I wasn't looking they often crept in behind the television and did their business there. I tried to stop them but repetitively failed. At about lunch time I picked the kittens up and carried them outside onto the deck there they staggered around not knowing what was there, their mother Maszie lay happily on the cat scratcher not bothering about the kittens as she was very tired because she had just feed the kittens. Muthasa the youngest kitten jumped back inside, this was a very big surprise as Muthasa is the biggest. Mogoly the oldest followed Muthasa  but did not go inside instead he stopped at the door and stood still. This left Merce sitting on the cat scratcher alone, other than Maszie, who lay asleep on the top of the cat scratcher.

On the fence

An undecided person, you are on the fence is like theres too much option or you dont know what your doing. Another way to say you are on the edge is you are confused or you have to much option, therefore putting you in a awkward position and/or not knowing what to do next.

If someone is having a car problem and it's going to cost the same amount to get it repaired as it would to go buy a second hand car, a person might say "Your on the fence there".

Playground Dialogue- Morning Blogpost

Playground Dialogue

"3...2...1 GO!" shrieked Jack.
We quickly jumped on the bars I then yelled "You will never bet me" laughing as I went. We soared round the monkey bars missing at least one on each swing. "Remember whoever loses has to buy the winner a chocolate bar" Jack hollered.
I yelled back in reply "I like snickers!" still racing along the cold metal bars.
"Theres the finish!" Jack declared. I raced past Jack leaving him in my trail and quickly crossed the finish line, "haha that will be one snickers!" I yelled as Jack came through the finish line. Jack muttered something silently "Blah blah next time,". "Rematch" I yowled knowing he was annoyed at my victorious win. "Your on" Jack quickly called back."You still owe me a chocolate bar" I laughed as Jack started the countdown.

Relative- Morning Blogpost

My Grandpa, My grandpa is really really smart. He retired from being a lawyer about 20years ago. He always has a friendly quote to greet my family and I. Sadly he lives in the center Auckland, but that is no trouble as we go up and get every 2 months and bring him down to Tauranga. On the way we offtenly stop in at cafe's, he always orders a Ice Coffee with extra cream and always orders a small bit of food. He goes by his middle name Neville although his first name is Athlston. He frequently tells us about how he lived in China for a couple of years and how his parents grew up their. His famous quote "It's good for the health" goes with just about any thing he likes, coke, cream and even muffins. The strange thing is according to him pumpkin isn't good for the health (probably because he dislikes pumpkin). He has happy blue eyes and small tuffs of hair on his shiny head, he has a baggy chin and is wickedly smart

Charging Laptops- Morning Blogpost

Negatives (About charging your laptop during class time.)

  • Costs the school 15 cents to charge a laptop.
  • The money good go to other things eg. school suplies.
  • People can trip up on the cords.
  • The charger cords can look messy.
  • It can make you lazy as you don't have the responsibilities.
Suggestions (That can/could solve the problem.)
  • Bring in 10 cents wach time you would like to charge your laptop.
  • Little vouchers like a token, you could get three tokens a term and each token represents a full charge.
  • You could only be aloud to charge your laptop in the afternoon.
  • A charging table, you would have to charge your laptop on a designated table.
  • Bring a note in from your parents saying why there laptop is not charged also the note should have to have your parents signature.
My Reason

I think Rimu students should be aloud to charge their laptops during class time but there should be certain limits to charging and when you can charge. I also think students should take the responsibility of charging their laptop at night, I realise that people do forget as this is just human nature and also sometimes students are not able to charge there laptop at night as they could be at out for tea or have a late night out and get home late and tired and forget to charge the laptop.

The Weekend- Morning Post

The weekend went really well for me. I woke up super excited on the Saturday morning and had breakfast, then played with my cat Maszie and my kittens Mogoly, Mercedes and Muthusa. Gradually my parents woke up and came out into the living room were I was. My dad then asked me to come do a job, we had to take down the curtain in my room so that my dad could paint it. The window was very hard to hold as I had to hold it in the perfect angle so that the bolts wouldn't bend and I had to balance on the tiny window sill. The curtain felt really heavy when I was holding it up but when we moved it into the lounge it was actually quite light. I then got some paint, a steel brush and a flat head screwdriver. I trotted outside to were my abandoned tea table lay. I was really excited about what was going to happen next I grabbed my steel brush and got to work scrubbing I was to tell you the truth afterwards I was exhausted. I then got the screwdriver and popped the lid off the small paint can the smell quickly filled my nose I couldn't help but to wrinkle my nose to the horrible smell. It stunk like rotten eggs, raw fish and a way to heavy old ladys perfume. I then grabbed a tent peg and began to stir the horrible white sludge known to many as paint. I dipped my paintbrush in and was annoyed to find that I hadn't stirred the paint nearly enough I quickly put the tent peg and stirred I stirred the paint so hard some of the mix nearly fell out. I then put my brush back in and was relieved to find that the paint had thinned out I put some of the mixture onto the table, I had to make sure I got right into the groves of the table it annoyed me so much it took just about 5 minutes to just do the top quarter of the table at the same time I was a bit upset the paint was dripping. I attempted to scoop the drips off the table, I succeeded! I was proud of my accomplishment. I then quickly started at the bottom off the table and worked my way up. 45 minutes later I had done the table I ran into the house super cherry I ran to my room were my dad stood my room was just about done I was so so so happy all the pin holes had been filled in and there was only half a wall left to paint.

Restore A Piece Of Art- Homework

Homework Challenge.
E7- Create you're own challenge.
Restore a piece of art.

For homework I have decided to restore a vintage outside tea table and chairs. The table and chairs were neglected and was growing moss, had prey mantis eggs all over it and had gone a dark lime green in some places, to fix this issue I had to carry the small table set over to my neighbors.

There I water blasted the set, the moss slowly came of but took a very long time. On average it took 30 minutes to do one chair alone. I gradually finished the chairs and came to the table the table took 45 minutes, without hurrying the moss and the alge looking substance wore of the table. I then had to go back to the chairs and work on the paint I tried my hardest to get the paint off but sadly most did not I spent 5 minutes doing this before giving in to the tough paint. I then hunted around for a metal brush to scrap of the paint I sadly I didn't, luckily though my grandparents had 2 they happily gave me one and I got to work. I put my safety glasses on and scrubbed after about a while I stopped to see my progress there was barely any I told my dad and he looked at the table he began to show me a special technique that made the paint come off ten times faster. I did this for a couple of days (with breaks) and largo the paint .
I then moved on to the chairs scraping them back with the corse metal wired brush. I attempted to scrap back the rust of the bolts that connected the legs to the seat. With perseverance I succeeded the rust bit by bit flew off into the air. Soon after I wiped the seat down with the corse brush, the paint drifted off after a period of time then I shifted onto the legs, the legs were a lot harder than the rest  as they had curves and narrow gaps. The time didn't pass very fast while doing this diligent task it seemed like a life time after triumph hit and told me I had done three legs. I gracefully moved on to the forth leg, I stroked the chair leg with the bristly brush a looked at the work I had done the first chair and table were done all of the sudden terror struck I still had two more chairs to do. A day later I walked outside and got to work on the vintage table again, the progress went exceedingly fast before I knew it I was on the third leg I scrubbed away removing flakes of paint in the brushes path. I did the same on the third chair and hosed the set of with a hose to remove any flecks of paint that might have stuck to the table. I looked at my headway there was still lots of paint clinging on tightly to the aluminum. But that didn't matter as long as it wouldn't flake off after the new layer of paint went on. A month later I began painting. The reason it took so long was because I had to gather up a special paint, a 26mm paint brush, my dads assistance and the right sort of weather. I commenced painting with a special under coat. I painted the table and made sure that I started at the bottom so that I didn't accidentally bump my head on the top. I then worked on the top and came back to the dips in the metal and filled them in with more paint and then came to the holes in the and put paint in the corners. I then started on the chairs they were a pain as they had lots of small places that I had to get my brush around and in between. Eventually I came to the end of the tough project and put it on Trademe you can find it here Vintage Tea Table Set Trademe

I wonder why?- Morning Blogpost

I wonder why roses have thorns?

Roses originally grew in areas where there were large numbers of herbivores roamed, such as Rabbits, Cows and many more plant eating animals. Many animals like saccharine tasting food. Therefore the rose bush is instant prey. The roses have to protect themselves and the thorns are perfect for the occupation. Also thorns make the plant much stronger.

Book Review- Homework

The Sisters Grimm
Fairy Tale detectives

In the late years of 2005, an exhilarating book was published. The enhancing book’s title was “Fairy Tale Detectives” the book also created a new range of some extravagant novels “The Sisters Grimm”.

In this fascinating book you get to meet four formidable characters one, with a majour hidden secret identity. The “Fairy Tale Detectives” has some very mischievous characters. Two sisters, Daphne and Sabrina Grimm are shipped off to an orphanage after their parents disappeared. The only evidence to their disappearance was a scarlet hand on the front of their parent’s car, The girls hopes start to shift as they are dumped in foster home after foster home each foster carer is ever a crazy psychopath, using the two young girls as their personal slaves. The girls luckily manage to narrowly escape from each home. On one occasion the two sisters escaped in the back of a pizza boy’s car, they stayed hidden until they got into town. The sisters are eventually taken to an eccentric old woman claiming to be there Grandmother. The girls were terrified when they found out as their parents had told the two girls that there grandmother was dead! Daphne slowly falls for the old lady, leaving Sabrina wondering was it really their grandmother or were her parents telling them lies.

The characters each carry some awesome and some very unique personalities ranging from mystical fairy tale creatures to typical human being. The book is based in a small mythical town named Ferryport landing. This small town also holds some of the worlds greatest fairy tale characters of all time including Jack, from Jack and the beanstalk, Snow White from the 7 dwarfs and Rumplestiltskin. All these characters are trapped in the small town after a witch named Baba Yaga cast a spell over the whole town. Only when the last of the Grimm’s dies will the  spell be broken.

Sabrina Grimm is very mischievous and always gets into all sorts of trouble even though she is only 11 years of age.  Sabrina’s sister, Daphne Grimm is only 7 years old and is almost the complete opposite of Sabrina as she is always trying to hold her sister back from getting into trouble but is generally sucked into her sister troublesome schemes.

I would recommend this book to almost anyone who loves fantasy mystery novels. I am not one to get stuck into a book, but “The Fairy Tale Detectives” is a book that I couldn’t get my nose out of. One night my parents told me to go and  read a book. I then stumbled around the house searching for a good book before finding myself in my sisters room asking her  for a recommendation. She gestured towards her bookshelf and pointed at a red vinyl spined book named “The Fairy Tale Detectives”. I was a bit deceived by the title but my sister is generally right when it comes to these types of things so I went down to my room and read. The book was brilliant I couldn’t stop reading. I probably never would have picked it up but I now know not to ‘judge a book by it’s cover’.

Book Review- Homework Task

Book Review

James And the Giant Peach

James and the Giant Peach is another classic by Roald Dahl. First published in 1961 this dazzling book has still keep its exhilarating title. James is a young boy who has run into some trouble as his parents have just been eaten by rhino’s. He’s then sent off to live with his two evil aunts, Aunt Sponge who’s as fat as a cow and Aunt Spiker who’s as skinny as a twig. Although their sizes are very different, they share one thing, hatred towards children. Now they have one all to themselves. They live on the tip top of the very highest mountain in England.

Join James on his quest with his two evil aunts, and lots of mysterious creatures. Varying from gigantic grasshoppers, ladybugs, worms, centipedes, glow worms, and even overgrown silkworm’s plus many many more.

I thoroughly enjoyed this book. It is a very simple but thoroughly sensational read. This is a very short book, I also feel the characters were very well introduced and thoroughly enjoyed their personalities as they were well described. I would recommend this book to almost all readers especially fantasy lovers!

Graveyard Visit- Morning Blog Post

On Friday 31st of May, room 42 students walked down to the 16th ave cemetery. Two room 42 students carried down a bottle of water each. This was for after to wash off all the bad tapu, the water then makes you noa again. The reason room 42 went down to the cemetery was because we are going to do a statistics study on the graves, we each pick/decide something that we want to do a statistics study on I am more than likely doing a study on the number of brocken tombstones at the 17th ave cemetery. In this study some of the things I will more than likely have to show are the percentage of broken tombstones and roughly how many.
