45 Minute Inquiry

In the late medieval times in Scotland a new sport was created this sport was named "Curling". Curling is a no contact sport and requires exactly four players.

Instead of being called a game like most sports curling a game of curling is called a match, in a match there are four players on each team (two if playing a match of mixed doubles.). The winning team is the team with the most houses. A house is a goal in curling and the reason being is that you need to get the curling stone (The small but heavy ball like puck), back to home! Obviously since this sport is played on ice, curling is most popular in Canada.

You only need very basic things to play curling other than the curling broom and curling stone these can easily be replaced by something as simple as a broom and a tennis ball, you also need long pants and a jacket plus some shoes with slider bottoms (slider bottoms are shoes that have a slippery bottom surface meaning you have full control and can also slide over to the curling stone with ease).

Curling has a history which goes way back to medieval times in Scotland, curling is also a well known sport in many countries that often have snow fall in winter time! In one of the Beatles music videos "Help!" they show a scene of a group of people curling!

In conclusion curling is a sport created a long time ago in Scotland, it was officially introduced to the olympics in 1992, and uses many sporting words that are not in many other sports, you only have to use very basic tools and can always improvise with other house hold equipment, curling has been around for a very long time and has a history that veers right back to medieval times.
